World Lit Nov. 17-Nov. 21

Monday-Students Peer-edited their research papers.
Tuesday- Students were assigned Macbeth Project--DUE MONDAY AFTER BREAK
Wednesday-Students had the class to work on research papers, projects, or ask any questions about either.
Thursday-Students had the class to work on research papers, projects, or ask any questions about either.
Friday- We watching Invisible Children and filled out the worksheet, which was due at the end of class. Link for documentary:

A Day
Monday- Part II of In Cold Blood Multiple Choice Quiz, discussed letter Perry's father wrote to Parole Board; students SOAPSToned and DIDLSed for next class.
Wednesday- Vocab 11 Quiz; Groups discussed correct answers to Multiple Choice Questions; Began writing Group Essay about Part II of In Cold Blood--Thesis and Body paragraph only
Friday- Groups finished analysis body paragraphs

AP Lang 11/17/14

We looked at the letter from Perry's father and SOAPSTone and DIDLS it. Students are to complete the worksheet to analyze the letter and fill in the chart on my Google + for the details Capote gives about Perry and Dick in all of Part 2.

World Lit 11/17/14

Today students had an opportunity to peer review their rough drafts of their research papers. The final paper is due Friday November 21, 2014.

World Lit October 20- October 24

Monday- We introduced Vocab Week 7. We learned how to MLA Format a paper and create an annotated bibliography.
Tuesday- Students finished annotated bibliographies and started creating an outline for their research paper.
Wednesday- Students continued working on their outlines
Thursday- Students finished working on their outlines and began writing their introduction paragraph. I began conferencing with students about their outlines.
Friday- Students completed a web quest and TPCASTT on Three of Shakespeare's Sonnets. The link to the web quest is at the top of my blog. The finished introduction, web quest, and TPCASTT are due Monday.

AP Language Octobeer 20- October 24


A Day
Tuesday- We took Vocab 7 Quiz, discussed argument and watched a 60 Minutes piece on Redshirting.
Thursday- In class students DIDLS/Soapstoned the first two and a half pages of In Cold Blood. We discussed how Capote used language to involve the reader. Students are to review and take notes on the background material in the In Cold Blood file on my Google Drive.


B Day

World Lit Sept 29- Oct. 3

World Lit

Monday-We introduced vocab for week 5. We read chapters 38-40 in A Thousand Splendid Suns in class independently and did summaries for each page.
Tuesday-We read chapters 41-43 in class independently and answered essential questions for  the section.
Wednesday-We read chapters 44-45 in class independently and did summaries for each page.
Thursday- We read through the end of Part Three in A Thousand Splendid Suns.
Friday- We took the Vocab Week 5 quiz and discussed A Thousand Splendid Suns. Students then read Cinderella by The Brothers Grimm and filled out a chart based on analyzing the story from a feminist perspective (available on Google Drive). Students are to finish A Thousand Splendid Suns over the weekend.

AP Lang Sept 29- Oct 3

A Day
Monday-Introduced morality in The Road and found quotes from the book about morality. We then annotated two articles by Leonard Pitts about Sept 11 for ethos pathos and logos. We introduced the writing topic for this section of The Road.
Wednesday- We started the thesis statements. I gave feedback about them and there was a junior/senior class meeting
Friday- Vocab 5 quiz. We then discussed morality in The Road. Students then finalized their thesis statements began writing their body paragraphs.

B Day

Monday- In class silent reading (I had a sub due to Georgia State Writing Test Tutoring)
Tuesday- In class silent reading through chapter 30 (I had a sub due to Georgia State Writing Test Tutoring)
Wednesday-Students took a quiz over the beginning of Part II through Chapter 30 in A Thousand Splendid Suns. We then participated in the Carnival put on by students in AP statistics classes.
Thursday- We read in class and discussed how to analyze literature through the Feminist Theory Lens.
Friday-We read in class. Students are to have read through Ch. 37 (until ch. 38) for Monday.

Ap Lang Sept 22- Sept 26

A Day
Tuesday- Prepared for the Georgia High School Writing Test
Thursday-Looked at Ms. Dial's and Ms. Wood's arguments regarding pets in costumes and analyzed them for tone, diction, and rhetorical style. HOMEWORK- Write a persuasive response on the subject of dressing pets up in costumes from the point of view of a pet. (Must be in English. I don't speak dog.)

B DAY
Monday- Prepared for the Georgia High School Writing Test

Monday- We read Book 24 of The Iliad and took notes as a class.
Tuesday- The summative group project for The Hero Unit was assigned and students had the opportunity to begin working in their groups.
Wednesday- We reviewed for the test on Friday
Thursday- Students worked in groups.
Friday- The Iliad/Hero Unit test

Week 3- AP LANG

A Days
Monday- We read and annotated an excerpt from Eat, Pray, Love and wrote an analytical paragraph discussing style's impact on meaning.
Wednesday- Analytical paragraphs were returned with feedback and students were to expand paragraph into an analytical essay. Students were to read excerpt from The Glass Castle for homework.
Friday- Students took vocab quiz 2, annotated "Dumbing Down America" and we discussed effective annotation. Students also saw an example analysis paragraph about excerpt from The Glass Castle. Students annotation (SOAPSTone and DIDLS) the first two pages of The Road by Cormac McCarthy.

B Days
Tuesday- We read and annotated an excerpt from Eat, Pray, Love and wrote an analytical paragraph discussing style's impact on meaning.
Thursday- Analytical paragraphs were returned with feedback and students were to expand paragraph into an analytical essay. Students were to read excerpt from The Glass Castle for homework.

World Lit
Monday: Epic Conventions and introduction to The Iliad and began reading Book 1 with guided notes.
Tuesday: Continued reading The Iliad in partners. Students were responsible for completing accompanying questions for Book 6.
Wednesday: Students continued reading The Iliad and completing questions.
Thursday: Continued reading The Iliad in partners. Students were responsible for completing accompanying questions for Book 22.
Friday: Applied the Hero's Journey archetype to other works of fiction

Tuesday: We wrote group analysis paragraphs on Night. We then peer revised them and rewrote them. Students were then to read and DIDLS "Introductions" by David Sedaris
Thursday: We began class with a Vocab quiz,then we wrote group analysis paragraphs on "Introduction" by David Sedaris. We then peer revised them and rewrote them. Students were then to read and DIDLS an excerpt from Eat, Pray, Love.

B Days
Monday: We finished the song tone shift assignment and discussed the difference between changing tone and changing meaning. We then discussed tone versus style.Students finished up class by DIDLS-ing an excerpt from Night.

Week of August 4 WEEK ONE World Lit

Monday- Introduction to class, began lit terms power point.
Tuesday- Finished lit terms power point, read an article about the historical background of "The Iliad" and discussed it with partners.
Wednesday- Discussed heros, read "The Life and Times of Hercules" and answered discussion questions with a partner, took notes about archetypes
Thursday- Finished archetyps notes, worked in groups to create a poster representing different characters from "The Iliad," an e-mail to me was due at midnight so that I could add you to my Google+ circle
Friday- Completed the character list for "The Iliad," played "Who's Who of 'The Iliad'" BINGO.

Week of August 4- WEEK 1 AP LANG

AP LANG A DAY

Monday- Introduction to class, 6 word memoir
Wedsnesday- Voice lessons warm up, completed a SOAPSTone and DIDSL for two pieces telling about Stephen King's car accident and compared in terms of tone, manipulated the words from a favorite song to change the tone.
Friday- Finished the song lyric assignment, discussed difference between tone and style, and completed a DIDSL for an excerpt from Night, compared King's and Wiesel's style and tone.
